About Collaborative Family Law

Collaborative Law is a process whereby both parties and counsel commit themselves to resolving their differences justly and equitably without resort, or threat of resort, to the courts. The process can be more humane and can promote post-divorce spiritual, psychological and financial health or the restructured family.

Collaborative Law relies on an atmosphere of honest, cooperation, integrity and professionalism geared toward the future well-being of the family. The parties engage in informal discussions and conferences to settle all issues.

Collaborative Law requires each party, with the assistance of their attorneys, to express the values which underlie each position taken by the parties on all issues. The parties must be open to various solutions, with the goal of satisfying as many of the values expressed by the parties as possible, so that a comprehensive and mutually satisfactory settlement may be reached.

At James R. Ames, P.C., we are committed to creating an environment whereby our clients and the parties who oppose them can take ownership of their case so that creative, practical and often unexpected solutions can be implemented in order to find a settlement that will work for you. We believe that when the effort which would have been traditionally spent preparing for trial is exerted toward cooperative settlement, everyone is better off.

Criminal Defense

At James R. Ames, P.C., our attorneys have experience defending the rights of people arrested and accused of criminal offenses. We defend the rights of client at every stage of the case starting with the arrest. Our firm represents clients in both misdemeanor and felony charges involving areas such as:

  • DUI/DWI
  • Drunk driving
  • Traffic violations
  • Assault
  • Burglary
  • Domestic violence
  • Kidnapping
  • Arson
  • White Collar offenses
  • Juvenile matters
  • Drug and Narcotics charges

DUI/DWI & Traffic Violations

Traffic violations can have serious criminal consequences, particularly when a driver is accused of driving under the influence. A conviction on DUI or DWI charges may result in fines, the revocation or suspension of your driver's license, and possible jail time. In addition, your insurance company may increase your rates to an unmanageable level. In defending against an impaired driving charge, you have many rights as a criminal defendant, including the right to cross-examine the witnesses against you, even if they are police officers. An experienced criminal defense attorney can make all the difference in such a difficult case.

Private Mediations

Mediation and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes provide an option for those who prefer to stay out of court. At James R. Ames, P,C,, we have experience in determining when a form of ADR is in the best interest of clients and meets their needs better than traditional litigation. ADR provides many potential advantages for most cases, including reduced cost, faster resolution, less emotional stress, the ability to construct solutions that are outside of the authority of the courts. James Ames is a Certified Level II Mediator, and he has been presiding over mediations for 15 years with Dispute Resolution Services of Tarrant County and has begun handling private mediation sessions at the requests of other attorneys in the area.
